Latinitas welcomes our Fall 2019 interns! We are grateful to have five new amazing interns who embrace the Latinitas mission everyday! Read below to find out a little bit about each and every one of them!

Reina Gonzales, Graphic Design Intern

Reina is from San Antonio, TX. She is currently attending St. Edward’s University, and will graduate in May 2020 with degrees in Graphic Design and Global Studies.

Why did you choose your major?

I have always been very passionate about art and design, learning, and global citizenship. I though both majors were very interesting and because I couldn’t choose between both of my interests - I decided to double major.

What made you want to join Latinitas?

I was part of a similar organization when I was younger that really impacted me, so I strongly believed in the mission. I also felt that this internship related to both of my majors.

Who is one of your role models and why?

My Mom is one of my role models because she is a strong leader, she is kind, empathetic and she inspires me to work hard at everything that I do.

Sabrina Ruiz, Social Media Intern

Originally from Laredo, TX, Sabrina moved to Austin to attend the University of Texas, and will graduate in May 2020 with a degree in Advertising with a specification in Texas Sports & Education, and a minor in Business Administration. She is also a part of the Texas Media & Analytics Cohort.

Why did you choose your major?

I have always enjoyed working with numbers and interpreting them, but I knew I didn’t want to work in such a black and white industry. Advertising allows me to take something of fact (data) and turn it into something creative. I with a group of other coworkers will have the power to influence how the world perceives or experiences a brand all because of data and research.

What made you want to join Latinitas?

Growing up, I saw my role models in positions deemed acceptable or appropriate for girls. No one told me it was okay to have ambitions like being an astronaut or an engineer! Latinitas is an organization breaking the stigma and empowering young girls to get out there and provide them with the resources to be successful! Being able to share that message is an honor.

What is your ideal career and why is that something you strive for?

My ideal career would be working at an agency getting to oversee production of campaigns and pitching to clients. Overall, working in any position from media, to analytics, to an account director would be exciting for me!

Jennifer DePaz, Content Production Intern

Jennifer was born-and-raised in Austin, and gravitated towards Texas’ flagship university, The University of Texas at Austin, where she received her Bachelor’s in Radio-TV-Film.

Why did you choose your major?

Beside its aesthetics, I revere media for its abilities to provoke meaningful thought and conversation.

What is your ideal career and why is that something you strive for?

I would love to be a television producer. Historically, media has been hugely underrepresented by marginalized identities. We often ask ourselves how media can continue committing such damaging faux pas, and it is because the people necessary in those spaces are not there.

What are you currently reading or watching?

I am currently listening to the podcast True Crime Obsessed.

Tavia Zepeda, Outreach and People Management Intern

Tavia is from Lewisville, TX, and a Public Relations major with a minor in Communications and Social Change at The University of Texas, Class of 2022.

Why did you choose your major?

I chose Public Relations because I believe every brand/person deserves a voice in how the public views them.

What is your ideal career and why is that something you strive for?

My ideal career would be to own a not-for-profit consignment store.

What do you like to do in your free time?

In my free time I like to box, thrift, and go to candy stores.

Jacqueline Hermosillo, Communications and Marketing Intern

Jacqueline is from Kyle, TX. She attended UT Austin and graduated May of 2019 with a degree in Communication Studies with an emphasis in Corporate Communications, and also obtained a certificate in Business Foundations.

Why did you choose your major?

I have always had the desire to pursue experiences where I could use my creativity, and as a Communications major I knew that my opportunities would be endless. Also, we are at the forefront of an evolving media-centered world, which will need adept communicators!

What made you want to join Latinitas?

As a first-gen Latina, their message spoke to me on a personal level. I wish that I could have had exposure to similar organizations growing up, but now I’m just excited to be a part of something that is benefitting and helping young girls and women achieve their goals.

What is your ideal career and why is that something you strive for?

I hope to be in a career where I can help others, and would love to start my own business someday!
