Yoselin Rodriguez is from Fort Worth, TX, also known as the metroplex of North Texas! Yoselin grew up in a diverse city and neighborhood, and couldn’t wait to work with an organization that promotes diversity and empowerment. She is currently studying Spanish and Film at the University of Texas at Austin and is expecting to graduate in the Spring 2019. At Latinitas, Yoselin is the Content Production Intern, which means she will work on all the videos and promotional materials that you see!

Why did you choose your major?

I chose to study film because I really enjoy helping others tell their stories. Creating even a simple video takes a lot of work and if I can help others put out what they want the world to see, then that makes all the hours I put in worth it. I also study Spanish because I wanted to connect with my heritage as well as one day hopefully connect my love for the language and my skills in production to help tell stories that often don’t get to be seen — kind of like what I get to do with Latinitas.

What made you want to join Latinitas?

An organization that teaches young Latinas how to use media to project their own voices? How could I not jump at the chance to work for an organization that combines my love for production and my love for diversity?!

What extracurricular activities do you participate in?

In addition to working with Latinitas, I also work at the TV station at the University of Texas at Austin called Texas Student Television (TSTV). I am one of the Entertainment Co-Directors for the station as well as a producer for Video Game Hour Live (VGHL), one of our many shows. Whenever I have time I also try to go to a Latin dance class during the week, and on the weekends I like to play Dungeons and Dragons.

Who is one of your role models and why?

Galen Hooks. She is a dancer, choreographer, creative director, producer, singer, songwriter, actress, and amazing person. She combined her love of dancing with her love of production and has worked incredibly hard to get to where she is now.

What is your idea of a dream job and how will your involvement with Latinitas get you there?

My current dream job is to be a producer for Naughty Dog, a video game company that has made some of my favorite games of all time. Being a producer means knowing what each step is and putting in a lot of hours to make sure that the project gets done. It also includes a lot of communication with a lot of people. Latinitas has given me the opportunity to produce content from start to finish which will let me hone in on my production and communication skills.

What is one of your favorite hobbies and how’d you get started with it?

I love playing Dungeons and Dragons (Dnd). It is such a creative outlet that makes you work together with a bunch of different people to solve a problem while going on a crazy adventure. The way I got into it was from friends back home who did a one-shot and let me join, then I came to Austin and joined a group at my university!

What is one of your guilty pleasures?

I enjoy watching America’s Next Top Model every now and then. It doesn’t promote the most body-positive message, but I am constantly fascinated by different professions, which includes modeling.

What are the best and worst uses of the internet?

Best: Global communication which allows those who would have never originally been shown in traditional media to be seen.

Worst: Constant communication which demands to be seen.
