Meet Latinitas Austin’s Spring 2018 Graphic Design intern Tiz Gonzalez. She is currently double majoring in Computer Science and User Experience Design at Austin Community College. Tiz originally from Tamaulipas, Mexico, and has lived in Austin since the age of three. She loves going to concerts, designing and Mexican food. You can usually find her exercising or cooking.
Why did you choose your major?
I chose my major because I wanted to learn how to program computers and I also wanted to learn how to design user-friendly web applications and graphics.
What made you want to join Latinitas?
I love what Latinitas stands for and how much they empower Latina girls. I think it is great to work at an organization that engages girls with media, tech and other male dominated fields.
What extracurricular activities do you participate in?
I spend the majority of my day designing and programming. It is either web design or graphics. I also work out and cook.
Who is one of your role models and why?
My role models are my parents. They came to the United States from Mexico with nothing and now are living the American Dream. They are hard working people and successful.
What is your idea of a dream job and how will your involvement with Latinitas get you there?
My idea of a dream job is loving it, because you will never have to work a day in your life. I believe a job should fulfill you but also challenge you. My involvement with Latinitas will hopefully show my ambition, my passion and skills to get me where I want to be.
What is one of your favorite hobbies and how’d you get started with it?One of my favorite hobbies is to design websites. I started in high school and I got more in-depth information by taking a course at Austin Community College.
What is one of your guilty pleasures?
Going to my bed with my favorite high calorie dessert and either watch a show or play video games.
What are the best and worst uses of the internet?
The best thing about the internet is that you can find any information out there if you want to learn something new. The worst being that it’s easy to compare your life to others on social media. Don’t do it!
