Meet Latinitas’ Summer Marketing Intern, Ericka Suarez. She is a Creative Advertising student at the University of Texas at Austin and will be graduating Spring of 2019. We are happy to have had her as a part of our staff during the Summer of 2017 and are excited to have her continue working with us this upcoming fall semester.

What made you want to join Latinitas?

I discovered Latinitas online and was attracted to the empowering space it provided for young Hispanic girls. As a Latina who grew up in a predominantly caucasian community, I wanted to contribute to a cultural and educational environment that I would have been apart of as a young girl.

What is it you will be doing for the Latinitas organization?

As the Marketing Intern for Latinitas, I help with creating advertisements and online announcements, writing the Latinitas e-newsletter, and contribute to Latinitas social media.

What is your idea of a dream job and how will your involvement in Latinitas get you there?

My dream job is to work with a creative advertising collective such as Pentagram, or for a nonprofit organization. Latinitas has given me the experience to practice my creative writing skills, as well as the opportunity to create advertisements for important events. I also hope to contribute to and advocate for an important social issue through my creativity and marketing experience.

Where are you from?

I am from Plano, Texas.

What is your guilty pleasure?

My guilty pleasure is definitely watching the Great British Baking Show. I’m not very skilled at baking, but I enjoy the show’s posh British setting and imagining myself devouring the pastries they make.

What is one of your favorite hobbies and how’d you get started with it?

One of my favorite hobbies is journaling because it is a fun combination of writing and illustrating. I’ve always written in diaries, but started creating sketchbooks about creative ideas and concepts for my high school art class. It’s been a good way express myself!

Who is your favorite celebrity/public figure and what would you like to tell them?

My favorite public figure is Jim Carrey because of his witty yet zany sense of humor, as well as his intellect. I wouldn’t want to tell him anything in particular, but would like to get to know more about his work ethic and growth as a person.

What is an interesting fact about yourself?

I have three beauty marks on my arm that, when connected, make a right triangle. I discovered this during my U.S. History class.
