Meet Latinitas’ Summer Translation Intern, Elsí Hernandez. She is a Psychology student at St. Edward’s University with a minor in Spanish. Elsí will be graduating in May 2018 and hopes to work with Latino families to help them live mentally healthy lives.
What made you want to join Latinitas?
Knowing what the organization stands for and hopes to accomplish is inspiring; I wanted to get involved in any way.
What is it you will be doing for the Latinitas organization?
I will be translating texts and online posts.
What is your idea of a dream job and how will your involvement in Latinitas get you there?
My dream job would consist of me working with Spanish-speaking children and families by helping them live a fulfilled and mentally healthy lifestyle. By interning with Latinitas, I hope to improve my Spanish and writing skills and to gain experience in working with a Latino-based nonprofit.

I’m from Lufkin, TX.
What is your guilty pleasure?
Eating sweets, specifically dark chocolate.
What is one of your favorite hobbies and how’d you get started with it?
Watching Broadway musicals. I’ve always been a fan of performing arts but after watching Hairspray in 2010, I became an avid patron.
Who is your favorite celebrity/public figure and what would you like to tell them?
I aspire to be like [E! Television Host] Leticia Sahagún; I would thank her and listen to her philanthropy experience and style tips.
What is an interesting fact about yourself?
I am very passionate about dancing and music, I was on a collegiate drill team for two years called the Kilgore Rangerettes.
