Meet Latinitas’ Program and Administrative Assistant, Briseida Diaz. She is a St. Edward’s Alumna with a degree in Communications and has been with the Latinitas for over a year.

  1. What made you realize you wanted to work with nonprofits?

I’m passionate about helping others, and working at a nonprofit like Latinitas allows me to contribute to a cause that positively impacts individuals, families and the community. Working at Latinitas allows me to do what I love while giving me an opportunity to grow in the workplace and beyond.

2. How will working for Latinitas benefit your future?

Latinitas lets me practice creativity, organizational skills, assertiveness, and leadership — some of the skills that I believe are essential to have in any workplace. As I continue to develop professionally, I am also gaining a deeper understanding of the importance of diversity and inclusion

3. What is your favorite memory from your time working at Latinitas?

Taking the lead on our very first volunteer information session this year. With the help of the Latinitas team, I was able to gather nearly 20 people (the biggest info session yet!) to discuss who we are, what we do and why volunteers are important to us. What I enjoyed the most was connecting with them and learning why they wanted to get involved with Latintas.

4. If you could go back in time, what advice would you give your kid self?

Be yourself and don’t worry about what others think of you. Being a kid is special, and it’s a lot more fun when you can express yourself in your own, unique way. Also, don’t give up on those guitar lessons!

You can often find Briseida tabling for Latinitas to promote upcoming programs or recruit volunteers.

5. What hobbies or activities do you like to do in your spare time?

Playing soccer is what I like to do most in my spare time! I get to have fun, focus and be competitive all at the same time. Other activities I enjoy are running, trying new food, a good cup of coffee with friends, and nights at the movies.

6. What is one event you would like to see Latinitas do?

I would like to see Latinitas have a state conference and how impactful that could be to girls and families all over the state of Texas.

7. What is your dream job?

While I was an undergrad student, I studied in Barcelona and I discovered the value of learning new perspectives and lifestyles. But most importantly, I learned to trust myself and to be confident. Therefore, my dream job would be to help students go through a similar experience by studying or working overseas, all while making sure they are succeeding academically, professionally, and personally.

8. What is your favorite Selena Quintanilla song?

La Carcacha! This fun, upbeat song never fails to make me dance.
