Meet Latinitas’ Social Media Intern, Ari Gonzalez. She is studying Business Administration at St. Edward’s University in Austin and started with us during the Fall 2016 semester. Ari will graduate in May 2018 and hopes to get a job with a nonprofit organization. Ari did such great work for us last year and we are thrilled to have her back for the Spring 2017 semester!
What made you want to join Latinitas?
As a Latina, I know how hard it is to find anything in the mainstream media that I can truly identify with, so when I heard about Latinitas and its mission I instantly knew this was the perfect place for me.
What is it you do for the Latinitas organization?
As the social media intern I run the social media accounts for Latinitas.
What is your idea of a dream job and how will your involvement in Latinitas get you there?
My dream is to become a human rights lawyer and start a nonprofit so that I have the opportunity to help as many people as I can. Working with Latinitas has helped me learn more and more about the nonprofit world, and has made me more passionate about dedicating my life to do something that helps others.
What is one of your favorite hobbies and how’d you get started with it?
I am very passionate about makeup and I take any opportunity I have to practice and do a full-face of makeup. I have loved makeup since I was very young but my passion grew when I joined theater and was a part of the makeup crew.
What is an interesting fact about yourself?
I played the violin for eight years.
What is your guilty pleasure?
I love watching movies and so does my sister, so we usually go to the movies once a week.
What is your favorite movie and why?
My favorite movie of all time is “About Time.” What I love most about it is that even though it seems like a stereotypical romantic movie, it is really a movie focused on being happy.
Who is your favorite celebrity/public figure and what would you like to tell them?
I love Gina Rodriguez; if I could meet her I would tell her what an inspiration she is not only to me, but Latinas everywhere.
