Meet Latinitas’ Marketing and Production Intern, Antonio Salmeron. He is currently studying at The University of Texas at Austin with a Public Relations and Radio-Television-Film double major. Using his business background, Antonio hopes to work for a nonprofit organization after he graduates in May 2018.
What made you want to join Latinitas?
I grew up in the Austin area and began to hear about Latinitas since middle school. I always thought their mission was very intriguing and beneficial to students. I’m also interested in film and media, so having heard the skills they help these young girls develop pertains to those things made me even more interested in being part of Latinitas.
What is it you will be doing for the Latinitas organization?
I will be assisting with the development of marketing and advertising plans while planning and creating media and editorial content.
What is your idea of a dream job and how will your involvement in Latinitas get you there?
My dream job is be a Director of Communications for a nonprofit or any special purpose organization that aims to help lower income communities. Being an intern in Latinitas is my way of taking that first step into this profession.
What is one of your favorite hobbies?
I love writing. Whether it’s screenwriting or news stories I enjoy the process. I get to be imaginative or get to go out into the world and search for a story I can gather interviews or information on.
Who is your favorite celebrity/public figure and what would you like to tell them?
Charlie Chaplin is my favorite celebrity. If I could meet him I would tell him how much I love his speech in ‘The Great Dictator’ and would like to hear all about the preparation of that scene.
What is an interesting fact about yourself?
I was born in Acapulco, Mexico.
What is your favorite movie and why?
2001: A Space Odyssey. I love both Sci-fi and realism. They’re my favorite genres and I feel this film is a good mix of both.
What is your guilty pleasure?
I love the travel channel and HGTV. I can waste a whole day away watching their shows.
