Pam learned about Latinitas as a young middle schooler and has stayed involved with the organization throughout the years. She has progressed from a Club Latinitas participant to a summer camp leader, club leader, graphic design intern and now a freelance graphic designer for Latinitas. She is also the social media manager for Coyote Garden Hall in Kyle and we couldn’t be prouder!

How do you think Latinitas has impacted your life?

I got involved with Latinitas when I was 16 and in high school, without a clue what I wanted to major in — computer science, maybe? The woman who would later become my mentor and someone who I aspire to be approached my friends and me at our lunch table and invited us to join the after-school Latinitas program.

We joined and, honestly, I don’t know what career path I would have taken if it weren’t for Latinitas. We learned about photography, websites, media, and technology, and my favorite: learning about female icons. On top of that, we had female guest speakers who talked about their careers.

One day, this woman came by and talked about her job in advertising and I immediately knew that is what I needed to do in life. Fast forward to seven years later; I have received my B.A. in Advertising from Texas State University. I have gone from summer camp leader, club leader, and graphic design intern to a freelance graphic designer for Latinitas.

Being involved in Latinitas has given me the confidence and inspiration to pursue the career I want. Now, I work at an event center where I manage social media and take part in marketing. I’m also looking at submitting an application for a master’s degree at a school in Germany in the near future.

It’s safe to say that Latinitas has played a big part in who I am today and who I aspire to be.
