Meet our Graphic Design Summer Intern, Valeria Heras. Valerie is from San Antonio, Texas and received her Bachelor’s degree at Schreiner University in Kerrville, Texas. She recently graduated in May of 2019, majoring in communication design and minoring in photography. We are so excited to have Valerie as a part of our Latinitas team this summer and can’t wait to see what she does in the years to come.

Why did you choose your major?

To be honest I have always loved drawing and design. Since I was young, I have always been interested in creating designs that a person can wear or can be inspired by.

What made you want to join Latinitas?

I found Latinitas on LinkedIn and was immediately interested in the program. I have never heard of any organization that wants to inspire young Hispanic women. I would of loved to have had an organization like Latinitas at my disposal growing up. I think this organization is very original and what we need right now. I wanted to join because I wanted to be a part of this movement of empowering Hispanic girls.

What extracurricular activities do you participate in?

Right now I participate in different theater activities working as a crew member for lights or sound during a show.

Who is one of your role models and why?

I am the first person in my family to go to college and graduate with a bachelor’s degree so my mother is my role model through her love and support.

What do you like to do in your free time?

I enjoy traveling to different places while doing photography. I also enjoy volunteering in theater whether being an usher, or working lights or sound.

What is your idea of a dream job and how will your involvement with Latinitas get you there?

My dream job would be having my own design firm. My involvement with Latinitas will help me gain experience and possible network connections.

Welcome to the Latinitas familia, Valerie!
