Meet our Social Media Summer Intern, Camille Williamson. She is a Houston native and rising senior at Baylor University, double majoring in Corporate Communication and Spanish. Camille plans on graduating in May of 2020 and is excited to spend her summer with Latinitas.
Why did you choose your major?
I’ve always valued communication, especially growing up with a brother who is nonverbal autistic. At the beginning of my time at Baylor, I began to pursue speech pathology. While I enjoyed many of the classes dealing with language like phonetics and linguistics, I quickly found that the science and math classes were not for me. I switched to communication and have absolutely loved my time in the major ever since. Later, I added Spanish as as my second major which was the best decision of my college career. I really enjoy my Spanish classes and even though I am not a native speaker, I’m working hard to become fluent someday.
What made you want to join Latinitas?
The core mission of Latinitas really stood out to me. Getting to be a part of an organization that supports young women of color in today’s growing technology fields is such a cool opportunity. I love that companies like this exist to provide the opportunity, education, and empowerment that every girl deserves.
What extracurricular activities do you participate in?
I love to play tennis and volleyball through intramural leagues. It provides a healthy outlet for my more competitive side. I also regularly volunteer at my brother’s school, Avondale house, that supports individuals with autism.
Who is one of your role models and why?
Currently, one of my role models is Rihanna. Not only does she make good music, but she also is a successful entrepreneur, business woman, fashion icon and dedicated philanthropist.
What do you like to do in your free time?
I love to be outside, play guitar, read, spend time with friends, or binge watch the newest, addictive tv show. I’m always looking for new suggestions!
What is your idea of a dream job and how will your involvement with Latinitas get you there?
My ideal dream job would be either working for a nonprofit with a mission that I really believe in or possibly becoming a Spanish or an ESL teacher. Latinitas mission aligns with my values of hard work and helping people while still incorporating my love of Spanish and communication. I know my involvement here will lead to many other exciting opportunities in the future.
