Meet Ben Hard, the Content Production Summer Intern at Latinitas. Ben is a third year Radio, Television, Film and Theatre double major with a certificate in Human Rights and Social Justice. He is expecting to graduate in May of 2021. Ben is from San Antonio, Texas and moved to Austin to pursue his degree at the University of Texas. Ben is super excited to help out and make content for Latinitas this summer.

Why did you choose your major?

I chose my major because I love storytelling and making performative art. I love the inherent process of collaborating with others and talking to all types of people. It brings me joy to capture the beauty of life as it unfolds and then put it on display for others to see.

What made you want to join Latinitas?

I wanted to join Latinitas because I think the goals of the organization are extremely relevant and important and closely align with my values as well. I see the merging of my values and videography as an invaluable internship experience.

What extracurricular activities do you participate in?

I like to stay active. I played soccer my whole life so I love participating in intramural soccer. I also enjoy working on and acting in plays and shows both inside and outside school, content production for an online, student-run, music publication called Afterglow, and working on student films through a film organization called DKA.

Who is one of your role models and why?

My brother because he follows what his passion is and makes sure to take care of people — his family and those he cares about along the way.

What do you like to do in your free time?

When I finally have free time, I like to just hang out with my friends and roommates, go to Zilker park to pet all the dogs, go swimming, cook, listen to music, dance, watch Netflix, hike, play soccer and to enjoy life and Austin!

What is your idea of a dream job and how will your involvement with Latinitas get you there?

My dream job would be one that allows me to travel and make documentary films about the places that I go to and how people live in these places, and what their environments are like. Latinitas can help me get there as my role here will help me develop my technical skills like interviewing folks, editing, filming events and filmmaking in general. I think my involvement here will be an important stepping stone in my career goals.
